Last week, the RBC Borealis team was proud to participate in the 42nd International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML 2025), hosted this year in our backyard of Vancouver. As one of the premier conferences in the Machine Learning (ML) community, ICML brings together global researchers, academics, and industry leaders to share ideas, present cutting-edge work, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in AI.

We were honoured to support this year’s conference as a Gold Sponsor, reaffirming our commitment to advancing the frontiers of responsible and impactful AI. Our presence spanned the full week, featuring accepted papers and workshop contributions, dynamic conversations at our booth, and a series of community building events.

Showcasing Our Research

The energy on the conference floor was electric. Members of the RBC Borealis research team were proud to present several accepted papers at the main conference and workshops covering topics ranging from time-series modeling and prompting techniques to explainable reinforcement learning. Many of these research papers were the result of collaborative efforts with leading academic institutions through our Mitacs academic partnership, and our ML Research Internship program, highlighting our continued investment in applied research and early talent development.

Connecting the Global AI Community

We believe the future of AI is built together. This year, RBC Borealis co-hosted two major community events during the conference.

Both events created meaningful opportunities to connect, share ideas, and strengthen relationships across academia and industry.

Bringing Together Leading Minds

In addition to our public events, we also hosted an AI ecosystem dinner that brought together 20 leading researchers, professors and partners from institutions including MIT, UBC, SFU, and representatives from Vector Institiute, CIFAR, and other research hubs. Led by Greg Mori, VP, RBC Fellow and Head of Research and Innovation at RBC Borealis – and Area Chair at ICML this year – the dinner fostered rich, high-value discussion on the future of AI and opportunities for deeper collaboration between industry and academia.
