Tristan Sylvain is a Machine Learning researcher at RBC Borealis, focusing on time-series forecasting for a wide range of applications. The goal of his research is to understand the fundamental principles that underpin generalization in machine learning, with a particular emphasis on self-supervised representation learning.
Prior to joining Borealis, Tristan received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Montreal (Mila lab) with a thesis on generalization for complex visual tasks, advised by Pr. Yoshua Bengio and Pr. Devon Hjelm. Formerly, he received a M.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Oxford, and an Engineering Diploma at Ecole Polytechnique in France.
